During my years in hospitality, I kept having the same conversation.
Accommodation owners who wanted more Dutch guests. They knew the value: Dutch travellers are loyal, they book early, they spend well and when the experience is good, they return year after year. But when I asked how they planned to reach them, the answer was always the same. Booking.com, maybe one of the larger well known ones. That's where the list ended.
Not because they were bad at their job. But because the Dutch travel trade is invisible from outside: over 700 organisations, extremely segmented, from big tour operators to hundreds of specialised agencies for cycling holidays, groups, long stays and boutique trips. Exactly the partners that would fit these properties. And nearly impossible to find without speaking Dutch and knowing the networks.
So most hotels did one of two things: they paid 15 to 25 percent OTA commission on every booking, forever. Or they gave up on the Dutch market altogether.
That never sat right with me. The demand was real, the supply was real, and the only thing missing was a way to find each other.
So I built the missing door.
